Tim Corcoran, AURORA COLONY WOODTURNING

Tim lives with his wife Susie and their two dogs, Willie and Watson in Aurora, Oregon - a small town about 25 miles south of Portland. Aurora is a town with a rich history of craftsmanship and woodturning. Founded as a religious and arts community in 1870, many of the buildings which were the homes and shops of the original craftsman still exist. The original 80” big wheel lathe still exists and is on display at the Aurora Colony Museum. Tim’s shop is in an 1880’s converted dairy barn in the heart of this picturesque community.

Tim got his start in woodturning working with his father in their hometown in the Muskingum River valley in southern Ohio where he was raised and attended school. Although his father was not an accomplished woodturner, he was an exceptional seat-of-the-pants engineer, a skill which is essential to the art of hand woodturning. Tim moved to Oregon in 1971 and was employed as a machinist in the local aerospace industry.

In 1994, Tim decided to return to his childhood roots and broke out on his own to established Aurora Colony Woodturning in the barn on the property adjoining his residence in Aurora. Since then Tim has been supplying high quality custom components for the cabinet making industry, the custom furniture industry, home builders, and remodelers.
